Monday Memento: Fall Foliage, Julian, California

October 7, 2013

Julian November 2008 (18)

Southern California isn’t known for having particularly beautiful Autumns; the crisp, cool air and the vibrant colors of changing leaves are native to more easterly locations in the U.S. SoCal’s warm, dry climate tends to yield more board-short Santas and Indian summers, instead of the cozy images seen elsewhere. But, there are some corners of the region that follow a more “traditional” seasonal path, and the little mountain town of Julian is one of them. About an hour’s drive from downtown San Diego, you can find the former gold mining town filled with apple orchards, pumpkin patches, hay rides, changing leaves in Autumn, and even snow in winter. It’s my little go-to place when I need to find another world.
